Home-based/Family Childcare
Convenors:
Lise Lemay, University of Quebec, Canada
Nina Hogrebe, TU Dortmund University, Germany
Aims
Internationally, a significant number of young children from birth to primary schooling are cared for in unique settings where early education and care is offered in home-based provision. However, there is a lack of empirical knowledge about home-based program regulation, requirements, and practices, as research in early childhood education and care typically focuses on center-based programs. Against this background, the general aim of this new special interest group is to advance understanding and knowledge regarding the context of home-based childcare services, fostering collaboration and innovation in this area. The specifics objectives are:
- To create a collective space that put the spotlight on the educational context of home-based
childcare. - To develop collaborations among international researchers interested in this type of ECEC service
provision. - To disseminate results of research on a range of topics, including but not limited to licensing and
regulation, business administration, leadership, meaning-making, quality assessment and improvement, professionalization of educators, inclusion and diversity, relationships with parent and communities. - To identify conditions to effectively integrate and support home-based childcare services within the wider framework of institutional early childhood education and care provision.
