A+ Words Learning supports Early Interpretive Reasoning (EIR), the developmental ability to recognise that words can have different meanings depending on context and that people often mean more than they say directly. This capacity enables children to interpret and reflect on meaning more generally, providing an important foundation for critical thinking. As information environments become increasingly complex, EIR works to support future information literacy. Grounded in findings from a longitudinal study on pragmatic development at the University of Oslo, Norway, A+ Words Learning offers a structured learning approach for children aged 3–6 that can be integrated into everyday routines in childcare settings and homes. For researchers, EIR offers a new framework for understanding the developmental links between language and reasoning. For educators, it provides an accessible approach to supporting children’s thinking through conversation. The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child brings together researchers, partners and communities to better understand how children engage with digital technologies and what this means for their wellbeing, learning and development. Our work produces evidence‑based insights and resources that support families, educators, carers and policymakers to support children to engage with digital technologies safely.
We will also be sharing key publications and resources, and welcome conversations about collaboration, research translation and real‑world impact. We look forward to being part of the conference.
